Rays Get Nifty 9-7 Win
|
The Tampa Bay Rays battled the Detroit Tigers into extra innings before the outcome was decided. The Rays won it, finally, 9-7, in 10 innings. In the game, Tampa Bay first baseman Yandy Díaz went 4 for 5 with 2 doubles, 2 singles, and a walk, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 4. Tampa Bay, now 51-64, holds down last place in the American League Eastern Division.
The game was all tied up in the top of the tenth, until Díaz delivered big-time for Tampa Bay, stroking a dramatic run-scoring single off Willie Hernandez. The game-changing hit put the Rays on top, 8-7.
"This was a tremendous character win for our team," said Tampa Bay manager .
