The Baltimore Orioles bested the Seattle Mariners, 5-1, at Oriole Park at Camden Yards. Brooks Robinson was one of the standouts. He went 2-3 with a home run and a walk. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2. Baltimore pitcher Jim Palmer earned the win, hiking his record to 7-12. Wilmer Fields suffered the loss. Baltimore is 4th in the American League Eastern Division with a record of 53-62.

The Mariners had been locked in a 0-0 tie with the Orioles going into the bottom of the fourth inning. That changed quickly when the slick-fielding shortstop Mark Belanger came to the plate. Belanger hit a bases-clearing double on a 2-1 screwball from Seattle hurler Wilmer Fields. It was Belanger's 2nd double of the year.

Belanger said his team "played with focus and determination."
