Rangers Tuck Away 5-4 Win Over Baltimore
|
The Texas Rangers topped the Baltimore Orioles, 5-4, in American League action at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington. The game was highlighted by the performance of Texas shortstop Buddy Bell. The winning pitcher was 26-year old right-handed pitcher Rube Curry. He tossed 89 pitches over 5.2 innings, allowing 4 runs on 8 hits. Jeff Russell recorded the save for Texas, his 25th of the season.
Bell contributed a big hit, a grand slam home run, for Texas in the bottom of the fourth. With his team trailing 2-1, Bell took a fastball from Webster McDonald and stroked the home run to left. His 10th home run of the season allowed the Rangers to leap in front, 5-2.
"You can't get too high when things go well, or too low when things go bad. Right now, I'm just happy we got the win," Bell told the Texas Today.
The setback makes Baltimore 52-62.
