Houston first baseman Jeff Bagwell picked up 3 ribbies while helping his team defeat the Detroit Tigers, 5-4, in 12 innings. Barney Brown picked up the win in relief. His record improves to 2-1. Harry Coveleski suffered the loss. The last-place Tigers dropped to 48-62.

The game-ending blow was delivered by Kyle Tucker in the bottom of the 12th. That's when he hit a run-scoring double off 30-year old left-handed pitcher Harry Coveleski to win it for Houston and cause the home crowd to erupt in celebration.

In postgame comments to the Houston Chronicle, Tucker said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."
