Tampa Bay Triumphs with Late Surge

The Rays grabbed a win, 5-2, at Safeco Field, overcoming a fine effort from Seattle pitcher Felix Hernandez. Hernandez went 6 innings and allowed 2 runs. Jake McGee snagged the win in relief. He goes to 5-2 on the season. David Aardsma suffered the loss. Earning his 22nd save of the year was Grant Balfour.
Tampa Bay used a timely hit from Yandy Díaz to get the win. The first baseman stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the ninth inning to put the Rays ahead, 3-2. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it made an impact.
Díaz attributed the win to "everyone pulling their weight."
Tampa Bay is last in the American League Eastern Division with a record of 49-64.
