White Sox Rally Late to Nip Royals
The Kansas City Royals could not turn a fine performance from pitcher Booker McDaniel into a win. Instead, the Chicago White Sox prevailed, 5-4, in 12 innings. McDaniel threw 6.1 innings allowing 2 runs. Chicago reliever Hoyt Wilhelm got the win, raising his record to 6-8. Kyle Farnsworth was tagged with the loss. The first-place White Sox have a record of 62-46.

The decisive blow was delivered in the bottom of the 12th when Heavy Johnson hit a run-scoring double off 24-year old right-handed pitcher Joakim Soria to win the game for Chicago. The home crowd went wild.

"I was a little disappointed," said Kansas City manager . "We could've and should've scored more runs."
