Red Sox Score Late, Clip Yankees, 9-8
|
Pete Hill was instrumental in his team's 9-8, extra-inning triumph over the New York Yankees. The center fielder was 3 for 4 with 2 home runs and a walk. He scored 4 runs and drove in 3 for the Boston Red Sox. Boston reliever Daniel Bard got the win, raising his record to 7-0. David Robertson was tagged with the loss. Boston, now 56-53, holds down second place in the American League Eastern Division.
The clutch at-bat came in the bottom of the 11th inning, when Boston pinch hitter Bill R Mueller, facing David Robertson, had a run-scoring walk. It gave the Red Sox the 9-8 win.
"Both teams had plenty of clutch hits," said Hill. "It made for an exciting game."
