The Chicago White Sox eked out a 2-1 win versus the Detroit Tigers at Comerica Tigers Park. Nobody did more than pitcher Eddie Cicotte. He was terrific. The winner was Cicotte. He threw 8.0 innings of 7-hit ball. The loser was Justin Verlander. Hoyt Wilhelm earned the save, his 22nd in 28 tries.

Heavy Johnson came through with a big-time hit for Chicago. The designated hitter smacked a solo home run in the top of the seventh inning to give his team the lead, 1-0. It was his only hit, but it was clutch.

Cicotte was in a reflective mood after the contest. He told the Chicago Gazette, "Every game is it's own challenge. That's what keeps the competitive fire alive."

Chicago is now 61-46.
