Johnson 3-for-3, Supercharges White Sox Offense
|
The Chicago White Sox stifled the Seattle Mariners, 6-2, at U.S. Cellular Field. Heavy Johnson, who is tied for 5th in the AL with a .843 OPS, had his hitting cap on. He went 3 for 3 with a home run, a double, and a walk, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 3 for Chicago. Eddie Cicotte, the winning pitcher, is now 12-6. He went 7 innings, allowing 2 runs on 4 hits, while fanning 3 and walking 4. Wilbur Wood picked up the save for Chicago, his 2nd of the year.
Frank E Thomas had a big 3-run home run for the White Sox in the bottom of the third inning. With Chicago leading 1-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a curveball from Randy D Johnson and swatted a home run to left-center. It was his 2nd home run of the season, and more importantly, it put the White Sox ahead, 4-0.
"Winning never gets old," said White Sox manager .
The White Sox now have a record of 58-44 with the win over Seattle.
