Tigers Beat Red Sox, 6-4
|
The Detroit Tigers knocked off the Boston Red Sox, 6-4, in American League action at Fenway Park. Detroit pitcher and The United States, native Jack Morris had an outstanding performance. Morris got the win, improving to 1-9. He gave up 5 hits and walked 0 over 7 innings. He allowed 2 runs. Harry Coveleski recorded the save, his 3rd.
Who knows how it would've ended, had it not been for Travis Fryman? The 24-year old shortstop Fryman stroked a 2-run double in the top of the ninth inning to put Detroit up, 6-2. For the game, he was 3 for 4, including 2 doubles and 1 single.
"We put it together and came out with the win," Fryman said in postgame remarks. "That's the main thing."
The Tigers are now 41-53, while the Red Sox fall to 49-48.
