The Seattle Mariners knocked off the Kansas City Royals, 8-5, at Safeco Field. Jimmie Lyons was a big reason Seattle won. The left fielder belted 2 home runs. He drove in 5 runs and scored twice. The third-place Mariners improved to 49-48.

In the bottom of the eighth, the Mariners grabbed the lead when Lyons hit his 17th home run of the season. The 3-run home run off Kyle Farnsworth made it 6-4, Seattle.
