In a well-pitched game between the St. Louis Cardinals and the Arizona Diamondbacks, pitcher Bob Gibson was fantastic. The St. Louis right-hander helped his team secure the win, 2-1. Al Hrabosky was the winner in relief. His record is now 1-2. The losing pitcher was Jose Valverde. The win for the Cardinals raised their record to 27-19.

Ozzie Smith was the walk-off hero for St. Louis. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Cardinals shortstop hit a dramatic run-scoring single to send the teams home.
