Los Angeles Dodgers starter Dazzy Vance was in midseason form, as he helped his team beat the Arizona Diamondbacks, 4-1. The 4th-place Dodgers hiked their record to 18-26.

Pee Wee Reese had a big solo home run for the Dodgers in the top of the fifth inning. With Los Angeles leading 1-0 and the bases empty, he sized up a fastball from 34-year old right-handed pitcher Curt Schilling and punished it. The result was his 2nd home run of the season, which put the Dodgers on top, 2-0.

"All my pitches were working," said Vance. "They were all synchronized together in attacking the zone."
