Diamondbacks Axe Twins at Target Field

Pitching was the name of the game in a tight contest between the Arizona Diamondbacks and the Minnesota Twins. Arizona won it, 2-1. Arizona starter Zac Gallen was in command. Gallen picked up the win for Arizona, going 8 innings. He gave up 1 run on 3 hits. He now sports a record of 14-9. Brad Ziegler picked up the save, his 11th.
The Twins had been locked in a 1-1 tie with the Diamondbacks going into the top of the fourth inning. That changed quickly when the slick-fielding shortstop Tony Batista came to the plate. Batista hit a solo home run on a 1-1 fastball from Minnesota hurler Bert Blyleven. It was Batista's 20th home run of the year.
"Not to put too fine a point on it," said Batista, "but we really needed that win."
The last-place Twins now sit at 67-89.
