Ed Whitson was locked in. The right-hander led the San Diego Padres to a 4-1 win against the Arizona Diamondbacks at Chase Field. Mark W Davis earned the save for San Diego, his 2nd. San Diego is now 86-60, 12 games up in the National League Western Division.
Garry Templeton, who leads the NL in triples with 17, had a direct impact on the outcome. Templeton contributed a run-scoring hit-by-pitch in the top of the sixth inning to put San Diego up, 3-1.
