Diamondbacks Beat Visiting Rockies, 4-3
|
The Arizona Diamondbacks topped the Colorado Rockies, 4-3, in National League action at Chase Field. The standout performance belonged to Arizona pitcher and Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, native Miguel Batista. The winning pitcher was Batista, now 9-14. He tossed 5.2 innings of 5-hit ball, while walking 5 and fanning 5. Arizona goes to 57-78, Colorado to 47-89.
The Rockies had been locked in a 2-2 tie with the Diamondbacks going into the bottom of the fifth inning. That changed quickly when the 27-year old right fielder Reggie L Sanders came to the plate. Sanders hit a 2-run home run on a first pitch sinker from Colorado hurler Aaron Cook. It was Sanders's 7th home run of the year.
"We'll put this win in our pocket and go after the next one," said Batista.
