The Los Angeles Dodgers called upon starter Orel Hershiser, and he delivered, leading his team to victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks, 2-1. The winning pitcher was Hershiser, now 9-11. He tossed 7 innings of 5-hit ball, while walking 2 and fanning 8. The third-place Dodgers bumped their record to 65-68.

Los Angeles used a clutch at-bat from Pedro Guerrero to capture the win. The left fielder hammered a 2-run home run in the top of the second inning to put the Dodgers ahead, 2-0. It was his lone hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a humdinger.

"Orel pumped strikes and he made good pitches when he had to," said Los Angeles manager .
