Padres Win, Machado slugs 2 home runs
The San Diego Padres beat the Arizona Diamondbacks, 5-2, at Chase Field. Manny Machado, in particular, was impressive. He went 2-4 with 2 home runs, while adding 4 RBI and scoring twice. Andy Benes, the winning pitcher, is now 11-5. He went 7.2 innings, allowing 2 runs on 4 hits, while fanning 10 and walking 1. Trevor Hoffman notched his 24th save of the season.

With San Diego trailing 1-0 in the top of the fourth, Machado hit a fastball from Curt Schilling for a 3-run home run. It was his 19th home run of the season and put the Padres ahead, 3-1.

"It felt good to put the barrel on the ball," said Machado.

The loss makes Arizona 54-75.
