Diamondbacks Nip Dodgers, 4-3
|
Curt Schilling was locked in. The right-hander led the Arizona Diamondbacks to a 4-3 win against the Los Angeles Dodgers at Chase Field. Schilling picked up the win for Arizona, going 6 innings. He gave up 3 runs on 3 hits. He now sports a record of 1-0. The save went to David Hernandez, his 1st this season.
The Dodgers had been locked in a 2-2 tie with the Diamondbacks going into the bottom of the sixth inning. That changed quickly when the 25-year old shortstop Tony Batista came to the plate. Batista hit a 2-run home run on a 2-2 fastball from Los Angeles hurler Clayton Kershaw. It was Batista's 5th home run of the year.
Diamondbacks manager raved about Schilling after the game. "I thought Curt was 'lights out.'"
No one expected much of this team, but the hot start by Arizona might have some re-evaluating their pre-season predictions. This latest win lifts their record to 9-6.
