Chicago Cubs pitcher Clark Griffith whisked his team past the Arizona Diamondbacks, 2-1. Sean Marshall wrapped it up, recording his 21st save. The Cubs are now 49-48.

Ryne Sandberg had a direct impact on the outcome. Sandberg contributed a run-scoring single in the top of the fifth inning to put Chicago up, 2-1.
