Mathewson Squelches Arizona Offense
The San Francisco Giants downed the Arizona Diamondbacks, 5-0, at Chase Field. Stellar pitching by Christy Mathewson had a lot to do with it. The right-hander, who is tied for 5th in the NL in innings pitched with 116.1, handcuffed his opponent all game. The second-place Giants have a record of 43-32.

Mathewson made it look effortless. He scattered 4 hits over 8.1 innings, while racking up 9 strikeouts. The San Francisco right-hander encountered little resistance from the Arizona hitters. His season record is now 7-3.
