Dodgers Cut Down Diamondbacks, 5-2
|
The Los Angeles Dodgers picked up a win at Dodger Stadium, topping the Arizona Diamondbacks, 5-2. On the mound for Los Angeles was right-hander Dazzy Vance. He played a principal role in the triumph. The winning pitcher was Vance, now 10-1. He tossed 7.2 innings of 4-hit ball, while walking 3 and fanning 9. The Dodgers now have a record of 32-37 with the win over Arizona.
Los Angeles first baseman Gil Hodges contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the third. With two down, he hit a fastball to center field for a 2-run single. It was his 11th hit of the season and put the Dodgers ahead, 4-0.
"I had a good game plan," said Vance. "I made my pitches." His manager concurred. "It was all there," said, "the velocity, the sharpness of his pitches."
