Yankees Defeat Cubs in World Series!

Yankees Close Out Cubs In Six
The Yankees lead the the series three games to two. The Cubs once again send Fergie Jenkins to the hill this time to face Jim Bouton. Fergie threw a complete game allowing 2 runs on 8 hits but Bouton was unhitable throwing a one hit shutout. The Yankees win the World Series!
Cubs Bounce Back At Home
The Series now shifts to Chicago with the Cubs in a 0-2 hole in games. The tide turns for the Cubs starter Larry Jackson throws a complete game giving up 3 runs on 7 hits. The took every advantage of their 7 hits scoring 8 runs to take the game. Once again in game four the Cubs starter, Bill Hands holds the Yankee quiet shutting them out on 2 hits. The Cubs score 3 runs on 7 hits tying the series at 2 game apiece. Game five and it is once again game one starters Ford for the Yankees and Cardwell for the Cubs. Whitey Ford pitched a complete allowing 3 runs on 4 hits. Cardwell pitched a solid 7 innings also giving up 3 runs on 7 this but there was an error in the first that made the difference. The Yankees now have a 3 game to 2 lead with the series moving back to New York.
Yankees Take First Home Games
The World Series will start in New York as the Yankees won 12 more games than the Cubs. The Cubs maybe seen as the underdogs but they just came off an upset of the Dodgers who won 101 games on the season. The Cubs send Don Cardwell and the Yankees Whitey Ford. Roger Maris and Mickey Mantle both connect on homers in the contest it is the first playoff homer for Mantle and the second for Maris. Whitey Ford holds the Cubs to 1 run on 6 hits for the win. The Cubs counter with Fergie Jenkins in game two as the Yankees send Jim Bouton to the hill. Lots of homers in this matchup three for each club. A total of 12 runs and 22 hits and in the end the Yankees come away with a 8-4 victory.
ALCS Yankees vs White Sox / NLCS Dodgers vs Cubs
Cubs and Yankees LCS Champs!
Game seven in Los Angeles and send Don Sutton to the mound against the Cubs Bill Hands. In the top of the 8th inning the Dodgers were up 2-1 Billy Williams doubled to tie the score and then Adolfo Phillips walked to take the lead. Cubs starter Bill Hands went 8 strong innings holding the Dodgers to just two runs. In the top of the ninth Ron Santo hit his 3rd homer of the series with one on board. Cubs reliever Ted Abernathy came on in the 9th to shut down the Dodgers. Cubs Win the NLCS! Back in New York with the series tied 3-3. The Yankees send their ace Mel Stottlemyre to the hill to face off against Joel Horlen of the White Sox. The Yankees took a quick lead with homers in the first two frames by Howard and White. Stottlemyre in the meantime held the Sox scoreless through 8 innings while the Yankees collected 2 more runs. The White Sox scored 2 in the top half of the 9th but they came up short. The New York Yankees are going to the World Series to face the Chicago Cubs.
Yanks Come Back Tie Series / Cubs Defeat Dodgers In LA!
Game 6 in New York with the Yankees down 3 games to 2 they turn to Fritz Peterson on the mound. The White Sox send Gary Peters to the hill. The Yankess score early going up 4-1 with a homer by Boyer and a double by Howard. The White Sox come back to within one by lose as Peterson goes the distance in a 4-3 win. Game 5 in Los Angeles and the Dodgers are still one win away from going to the World Series. The Cubs shortstop Ernie Banks put a wrinkle in their plans belting a 435 foot homer with two on in the 6th inning putting the Cubs ahead 4-1. The Dodgers could only come up with one run after that. The series is tied at 3-3.
White Sox And Cubs Win In Chicago!
At Comiskey it was Ford vs John again. Tommy John went the distance although he allowed 11 hits the Yankees could only score 3 runs. Whitey Ford was knocked out of the game after six innings allowing 3 runs on six hits. Womak came in relief of Ford but allowed what proved to be the winning run in the bottom of the 7th. Roger Maris blasted a homer in the top of the ninth but it was not enough. The White Sox now had a 3 games to 2 lead with the series heading back to New York. Game five in Wrigley matched game one starters Singer and Cardwell again. The Dodgers could win the series with a win. The Cubs Jim Bouchee and Ron Santo both homered off Singer providing 3 of the 6 runs the Cubs scored. Don Cardwell held the Dodgers to 4 hits to give the Cubs a 3-2 series lead.
Koufax Beats Jenkins / White Sox's Robinson Big Again!
Game Four in Wrigley and the pitching matchup was Sandy Koufax vs Fregie Jenkins, a classic matchup. Koufax held the Cubs to 1 run 3 hits while the Dodgers bats for 7 runs on 13 hits to take their 3rd win in the series. Ray Herbert faced Jim Bouton in game four at Comiskey. Both starters went the distance. Herbert held the Yanks to one run on seven hits while White Sox Floyd Robinson went 3 for 4 on the day with 2 doubles and triple accounting for 2 of the Sox 3 runs in a series tying victory. The White Sox are now up 3 games to 2 taking all of their home games.
Dodgers Stop Cubs In Wrigley / White Sox's Robinson Homers For Win!
The Dodgers got the upper hand on the Cubs at Wrigley. Down 0-1 in the top of the ninth they sent 7 men to the plate scoring two runs on 3 hits and a walk. Ron Perronski came in to relieve Ed Roebeck for the Dodgers to close the game. At Comiskey park in Chicago with their boys down 2 games to none to the Yankees. Joel Horlen outdueled Mel Stottlemyre in a 4-3 win for the White Sox. Floyd Robinson sent a Stottlemyre offering into the bleachers in the bottom of the fifth to put the Sox up and they held on for the victory.
Yankees Take Two In New York / Santo Homers For Cubs!
The Chicago Cubs coming off a strong end of season push taking the NL East come into Los Angeles and suprised the Dodgers in game one with Don Cardwell pitching a shut out. Ron Santo caught up with a Bill Singer fast ball and launced a 3 run homer it into the bleachers for the games only runs. All the way across the country the White Sox travel into the big apple to face the Yankees in the ALCS. The Yankees took both contests in New York 5-3 and 7-5. Whitey Ford and Fritz Peterson picked up the wins, Bobby Richards, Clete Boyer and Elston Howard provided the offense in the two home stand wins. Game two in Los Angeles was a close match as the Cubs, Billy Williams and Doug Clemens both homered off Claude Osteen. Willie Davis provided the games winning RBI singling in Johnny Rosboro in the bottom of the eight to tie the series at one game apiece. Both series would now move to Chicago for games 3,4 and 5.
