June 1920, Monarchs, American Giants Share National Top Spot

One week into June and the Detroit Stars, Dayton Marcos, Kansas City Monarchs are all tied on top of the national league.

Two weeks into June and the Kansas City Monarchs take over sole possession of first place in the national league. Two batters remain over .400, Isaac Lane of the Marcos and Charlie Blackwell of the St. Louis Giants. Currently “Bullet” Joe Rogan of the Monarchs has a 4 game winning streak on the hill.

He was 3 for 4 on the day with said homer and 2 RBI along with 3 great fielding plays. Team mates Frank Duncan and Bobby Winston provided more fire power collecting 5 hits on 9 at bats and 2 more RBI. Walter Ball went the distance for the win: 2 earned runs, 10 hits, 1 bb and 1 K. He's now 1-2 on the year. Charley Wilson pitched 7.2 innings and took the loss: 6 er, 12 hits, 2 bb and 1 K. He drops to 1-3 on the year.

June 14, Giants Park, St. Louis, MO. Charlie Blackwell of the Giants singled scoring Dudley to win the game in the bottom of the ninth inning. Blackwell was 3 for 4 on the day. Hurley McNair of the Monarchs belted his second homer on the season, he also batted 2 for 4.
