New York Sends Myers to St. Louis
Tuesday, October 17th , 1916
You can't always get what you want, but sometimes you find a deal anyway. The Baseball News Network is reporting that New York and St. Louis have made a swap with 22-year old RHP Elmer Myers being shipped to the Browns and in return the Yankees would get 27-year old RHP Jim Bagby and 21-year old RHP Gerardo Ballesteros.
New York general manager said the two sides were close to a blockbuster trade before agreeing upon a smaller scale transaction.
"This is just a bit of housekeeping compared to what we wanted to do," he said. "I won't name names, but the potential deal we were close to making would have certainly grabbed some headlines."
A source inside the New York organization said the two sides might not be done dealing, and another transaction could be in the works.
In his career-to-date, the 22-year-old Myers has fashioned a 25-19 mark, 3.55 ERA and thrown 449.1 innings. Opposing clubs are batting .235 lifetime against him and he has logged 233 total strikeouts.
Bagby has compiled a lifetime ERA of 3.82 with 15 career victories and 20 defeats. He has 99 career strikeouts in 327.2 innings and has held opponents to a .289 batting average.
