The hottest hurler in the NL this season was Babe Ruth of the St. Louis Cardinals. He caught the attention of everybody in the league on his way to winning the 1916 NL Cy Young Award.

Ruth starred with an impressive 27-8 record in 38 starts. The Cardinals ace gave up 193 base hits and struck out 141 in 329 innings with a 1.23 ERA.

He received 20 first place votes, as a unanimous winner. Jim Scott of the Homestead Grays finished second in voting, while Walter Johnson of the Chicago American Giants finished third.
