Fisher Throws 2-0 Shutout
Tuesday, September 5th , 1916
Ray Fisher led the New York Yankees to a shutout victory, 2-0, over the Cleveland Indians at Polo Grounds.

"My pitching coach told me before the game just to bear down and focus," Fisher recalled later. "He said no one was going to hit me if I'm throwing a good breaking ball with good location."

Fisher yielded 5 hits and had 5 strikeouts and 1 walk in the standout performance.

"I thought he put the ball where he wanted to," Cleveland manager said. "And that's just about the whole secret to pitching."

This year, Fisher has recorded a 19-10 mark. In 37 starts he has fanned 108 batters in 283.2 innings with a 1.97 ERA.
