Behind Caldwell, Philadelphia Blanks Brooklyn, 3-0
Saturday, August 12th , 1916
Philadelphia Phillies hurler Ray Caldwell was stingy with runs in his latest outing against the Brooklyn Robins, shutting them out, 3-0, on 5 hits.
"Ray was very aggressive tonight," Philadelphia manager said. "He threw everything he had with a lot of confidence."
Through 9 innings, Caldwell tallied 8 strikeouts and allowed 3 walks.
"He was throwing strikes with all his pitches and mixing it up well," losing manager said. "Caldwell has a sneaky fastball, and whatever that off-speed pitch was, it was keeping our timing off."
This season, Caldwell has crafted a 22-5 mark with a 1.80 ERA in 244.2 innings. Opposing clubs are batting .206 against him and he has 121 strikeouts.
