Giants Top Nationals, 4-2
|
The San Francisco Giants converted a terrific effort from starter Carl Hubbell into a win over the Washington Nationals at AT&T Park. The Giants won the game by a final score of 4-2. Hubbell, now 8-5, was the winner. In 7 innings, he gave up 7 hits, while striking out 7, walking 0, and allowing 1 run. Rod Beck picked up his 17th save of the season.
In the bottom of the fourth, San Francisco second baseman Robby Thompson had a productive at-bat. With runners on 1st and 3rd and two out, Thompson stroked a run-scoring single to right. It made the score 3-1, San Francisco. For the game, he went 1 for 3.
Washington manager said he was "mildly disappointed" with the loss. "We had our opportunities, but we didn't take advantage of them," he said.
The Giants saw their win-loss record go to 39-28. At the same time, the Nationals fell to 23-42.
