The Detroit Tigers got a marvelous performance from pitcher Hal Newhouser. The left-hander kept the Chicago offense from ever getting much traction. The result was an impressive 8-2 Detroit victory at U.S. Cellular Field. Newhouser yielded 2 runs over 7.2 innings to notch the win. He scattered 6 hits, walked 2, and struck out 5. His record improves to 9-5. The Tigers win now puts them at 31-34.

Who knows how it might've ended, had it not been for Charlie Gehringer? The Detroit second baseman had a 2-run double in the top of the fifth inning to put the Tigers on top, 3-1. For the game, Gehringer had 1 double and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
