Mets Tag Brewers with 3-0 Loss
|
New York used a superb performance from starting pitcher Craig Swan to down the Milwaukee Brewers, 3-0. Swan, the winner, moves to 2-5. He threw 7.1 innings of 4-hit ball, while fanning 5 and giving up 2 walks. The third-place Brewers dropped to 35-31.
Cleon Jones had a big run-scoring triple for the Mets in the bottom of the fifth inning. With New York leading 1-0 and a runner on 1st, he got a fastball from Mike Caldwell, who is tied for 6th in the NL with a 1.05 WHIP, and swatted a triple to right. It was his 1st triple of the season, and more importantly, it put the Mets ahead, 2-0.
In postgame remarks, Swan applauded his team's "resolve."
