The Detroit Tigers were almost helpless in their 4-0 loss to the Chicago White Sox and hurler Ed Walsh. Walsh kept the Tigers confused all game, spinning a 6-hit shutout.

"Tip your hat to Walsh," Detroit manager said in a postgame interview. "He kept us off balance all night."

The 29-year-old right-hander had 1 walk and 2 strikeouts in a strong performance.

"It just happened to be one of those games where even when I made mistakes, they either fouled them off or someone would make a fine defensive play," Walsh said. "It was just one of those games that things went my way."

To date Walsh is 6-6 in 14 starts with a 2.19 ERA and has 56 strikeouts in 111 innings.
