Red Sox Topple Orioles, 5-3
|
The Boston Red Sox dealt the Baltimore Orioles a 5-3 loss at Oriole Park at Camden Yards. Mookie Betts, who is tied for 9th in the AL in total bases with 119, was 3 for 3 with 3 singles, a walk, and was hit by a pitch. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. Dutch H Leonard earned the win, while 33-year old left-handed pitcher Tippy Martinez took the loss for Baltimore. Jonathan Papelbon earned the save for Boston, his 15th of the year.
Boston used a timely hit from Xander Bogaerts to get the win. The shortstop stroked a 2-run double in the top of the seventh inning to put the Red Sox ahead, 5-3. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it made an impact.
In postgame remarks, Red Sox manager lauded Betts. "He's a good, young player. The future's bright for Mookie."
The third-place Red Sox now have a record of 33-31.
