Mets Secure 3-2 Win
|
In a low-scoring contest between the New York Mets and the San Francisco Giants, Dwight Gooden, who is tied for 3rd in the NL in strikeouts with 85, proved to be the difference. The New York right-hander earned props for his performance in the 3-2 Mets win. Skip Lockwood nailed down the save. The win gives New York a season record of 34-28.
Jeff McNeil, who is tied for 10th in the NL in doubles with 15, had a direct impact on the outcome. McNeil contributed a run-scoring single in the top of the fifth inning to put New York up, 3-1.
"Dwight was exceptional and he pitched with a purpose," said New York manager .
