Mets Lose Late to Cubs
The Chicago Cubs defeated the New York Mets, 6-4, in National League action at Wrigley Field. Chicago pitcher Mordecai Brown had a standout performance. Chicago reliever Randy Myers got the win, raising his record to 1-2. Craig Swan was tagged with the loss. Sean Marshall saved it for Chicago.

Billy Williams, who leads the NL with a .375 batting average, helped out the Chicago cause in the bottom of the fifth inning with a run-scoring ground out. For the game, the left fielder went 1-4.

"Mordecai's as tough as he is talented," said Chicago manager .

The loss makes New York 33-27.
