Reds Come Back Late to Clip Giants
The Cincinnati Reds overcame a pretty good performance by San Francisco center fielder Willie Mays, beating the Giants, 7-6, at Great American Ball Park. Mays went 3-4 with a home run, 2 singles, and was hit by a pitch, while scoring 3 runs. Noodles Hahn earned the win after being summoned from the bullpen. The left-hander allowed 1 run on 4 hits in 3.1 innings. He upped his record to 1-0. Rob Dibble earned the save for Cincinnati, his 9th.

Pete Rose Sr, who is tied for 10th in the NL in hits with 67, took San Francisco hurler Brian Wilson deep in the bottom of the eighth. His 2-run home run put the Reds on top, 7-6. In all, Rose Sr had 1 single in addition to the home run, while going 2 for 4.

"Say want you want about this team, they play nine innings hard," said Cincinnati manager .

At 29-30, Cincinnati is in last place in the National League Central Division.
