Braves Get Close Win Over Marlins, 5-4
|
The Miami Marlins could not turn a fine performance from pitcher Kevin Brown into a win. Instead, the Atlanta Braves prevailed, 5-4. Brown threw 8.0 innings of 5-hit ball. The win gives Atlanta a season record of 31-26.
Atlanta used the timely hitting of Rico Carty to seize the win. The pinch hitter stroked a 2-run single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Braves on top, 5-4. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.
Carty told a Atlanta Chronicle reporter that he was "satisfied" with the win.
