Target Field was the site of a competitive game between the Texas Rangers and Minnesota Twins.

Minnesota Twins right-hander Bert Blyleven pitched a good game against the Texas Rangers at Target Field, leading his team to victory, 4-2. Blyleven got the win, improving to 6-4. He gave up 6 hits and walked 1 over 7.1 innings. He allowed 2 runs.

The Rangers had been locked in a 2-2 tie with the Twins going into the bottom of the sixth inning. That changed quickly when the 27-year old third baseman Cecil Travis came to the plate. Travis hit a run-scoring double on a 2-1 cutter from Texas hurler Matt Harrison. It was Travis's 13th double of the year.

"I thought we played some darn good baseball," said Twins manager .

The win puts the Twins at 24-28, while the Rangers drop to 23-31.
