Mets Get Hard-Earned Win, Stop Nationals, 4-3
|
Crowds lined up early in front of Citi Field, eagerly awaiting the start of the 2014 Major League season. On the mound was Steve Rogers for the visiting Washington Nationals and Jacob deGrom for the hometown New York Mets. In a spirited contest, the Mets pulled out the win, defeating the Nationals by the score of 4-3. Especially impressive was Steve Rogers.
The decisive blow was delivered by Lenny Dykstra in the bottom of the ninth when he hit a bases-clearing double off 28-year old right-handed pitcher Tim Burke to win the game for New York. The home crowd went nuts.
Dykstra attributed the win to "an all-around good team performance."
