Candelaria Boss as Pittsburgh Beats New York, 5-1
|
Pittsburgh starter John Candelaria put a stranglehold on the New York offense. The left-hander had complete command of his fastball in leading the Pirates to a 5-1 win. Joel Hanrahan was called on to finish, recording his 14th save. Pittsburgh has now won 3 straight, while the Mets have lost 4 in a row.
Candelaria imposed his will on the Mets, scattering 2 hits over 8 innings while striking out 9. The left-hander upped his season record to 4-4.
"John was strictly business," said Pittsburgh field general .
