Kansas City shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. was sensational. He was 2-4 with 2 home runs and a walk. He drove in 3 runs and scored twice. But it wasn't enough to rally his team to a win. Houston beat the Royals, 9-3. J R Richard got the win, improving to 3-3. He held the Royals to 2 runs on 3 hits over 7 innings, while striking out 6 and walking 4. The third-place Astros have a record of 25-27.

Brad Ausmus had a big 2-run triple for the Astros in the top of the fourth inning. With Houston leading 3-2 and runners on 2nd and 3rd, he got a fastball from Kevin Appier and swatted a triple to right-center. It was his 2nd triple of the season, and more importantly, it put the Astros ahead, 5-2.
