Cardinals Use Late-Game Magic to Beat Reds, 7-5
The St. Louis Cardinals weathered a fine game by Cincinnati first baseman Joey Votto to upend the Reds, 7-5, at Great American Ball Park. Votto went 2 for 2 with 2 singles and 2 walks, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Bruce Sutter, who is the 4th-best prospect in the Cardinals organization, was the winner in relief. His record is now 3-0. The losing pitcher was Rob Dibble. The save went to Al Hrabosky, his 10th this season.

Who knows how it might've ended, had it not been for Rogers Hornsby? The St. Louis second baseman had a 2-run double in the top of the ninth inning to put the Cardinals on top, 7-5. For the game, Hornsby had 1 double and 1 single in 5 at-bats.
