The Chicago White Sox and starting pitcher Ed Walsh stifled the New York offense en route to a comfortable 9-2 win at U.S. Cellular Field. The second-place Yankees now sit at 27-22.

Chicago took the lead, 3-1, on A J Pierzynski's 7th home run of the season. The solo home run came off New York pitcher Stan Bahnsen in the bottom of the seventh.

"I'm happy we won," said Walsh. "That's first and foremost. My goal is for the team to win the day I pitch, however it's done."
