Behind the hitting of Pete Alonso, the New York Mets stopped the Los Angeles Dodgers, 7-6, in 12 innings. Alonso went 3-6 with a double and 2 singles, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2 for the Mets. New York reliever Tug McGraw picked up the win, while Burleigh Grimes took the loss for Los Angeles. The Mets got a clutch hit from pinch hitter Bobby Bonilla. In the bottom of the 12th, he delivered a run-scoring single to win the game for the Mets.
