Pirates Take Tight Tilt
|
The Pittsburgh Pirates wanted a good start from Jesse Tannehill -- and he delivered one. The result was a 2-1 Pittsburgh win over the Baltimore Orioles at PNC Park. The winner was Tannehill. He threw 8.0 innings of 7-hit ball. The loser was Mike Cuellar. The Pirates, now 24-21, know that wins in May count the same as wins in September.
Had Tony Pena not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 3rd, Pena hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 2-1, in favor of the Pirates.
"The old adage is true," said Tannehill. "Good pitching stops good hitting."
