Athletics Rally Late to Nip Rays

The Oakland Athletics had to overcome a good performance from Tampa Bay pitcher James Shields to claim a 3-2 win at Tropicana Field. Shields went 7 innings and allowed 2 runs. Dennis Eckersley notched the win in relief. The right-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 2 innings. His record now sits at 2-1. With the win, the Athletics have a record of 26-19.
Oakland used the timely hitting of Jose Canseco to seize the win. The designated hitter stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the 11th inning to put the Athletics on top, 3-2. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"This level of focus will win us a lot of ballgames," Canseco said after the game.
