In 10, Cincinnati Sinks Philadelphia, 6-2
|
The Cincinnati Reds faced a tenacious opponent in Philadelphia pitcher Aaron Nola, but still scratched out a win at Citizens Bank Park by a final score of 6-2 in 10 innings. Nola went 8 innings and allowed no runs. Eppa Rixey picked up the win in relief, improving his record to 4-1. Steve Carlton was tagged with the loss. At 21-21, the Reds are currently last in the National League Central Division.
Vada Pinson delivered a big hit for Cincinnati. The center fielder drilled a grand slam home run in the top of the tenth inning to put the Reds ahead, 6-2. It was his only hit, but it was a beauty.
Pinson told a Cincinnati Bulletin reporter that he felt "ecstatic" after the win.
