The Pittsburgh Pirates topped the New York Yankees, 7-2, in National League action at Yankee Stadium. The game was highlighted by the performance of Pittsburgh pitcher Howie Camnitz. The 4th-place Pirates improved to 22-20.

With no one out in the bottom of the eighth, Joe DiMaggio had a chance to do some damage. New York was trailing 5-1, but had runners on 1st and 3rd. DiMaggio came to the plate against Deacon Phillippe, and hit a sacrifice fly. But it was not enough to complete a New York comeback.
