John Candelaria, despite pitching a good game, was disappointed in the outcome: a tough, 3-2, defeat for the Pittsburgh Pirates at the hands of the New York Yankees at Yankee Stadium. Herb Pennock snagged the win in relief. He goes to 1-1 on the season. John Candelaria suffered the loss. The 4th-place Pirates have lost 4 consecutive games.

In the bottom of the 6th, right fielder Earle Combs gave New York the lead when he hit a 2-run single. The Yankees had been trailing 2-1, but the two-out single off Pittsburgh pitcher John Candelaria changed that -- and New York went on to win.

"Tough loss," said Pittsburgh manager . "But that's how the chips sometimes fall."
