Phillies Drop Close One Late
The Cincinnati Reds picked up a win at Citizens Bank Park, topping the Philadelphia Phillies, 4-3. On the mound for Cincinnati was left-hander Johnny Vander Meer. He played a principal role in the triumph. Rawly Eastwick was called on to finish, recording his 1st save. The Reds now own a record of 20-21.

Pete Rose Sr delivered a big hit for Cincinnati. The right fielder drilled a solo home run in the top of the eighth inning to put the Reds ahead, 4-3. It was his only hit, but it was a beauty.

"I was just trying to execute one pitch at a time," said Vander Meer.
